Hi all. I guess you could say I'm new here. I posted somewhat regularly years and years ago...but it's been a while.
Have a KX-TD816 (I think it's a dash 5, maybe 6) with a TVA50 voice unit. The building's front entry intercom is a simply POTS device. It just grabs the line attached to it and dials the tenant's 7 digit public phone number.
User would like a way to distinguish between a regular call and an intercom call. Only way I can think to do this is to have the TVA answer the call, and based on caller ID play a short greeting with silence, then transfer to a phantom extension....OR have it simply transfer to an empty station port looped in to an empty CO port. Both options are messy, especially since customer would rather have normal calls ring a few times before going to the AA.
Is there a better way to accomplish this?

The door phone does not belong to the customer, it belongs to the building owners and serves many tenants with many different phone systems. It simply places a caller over the PSTN to the tenant. So my customer receives the same Caller ID every time the door phone calls.

Still does not tell me much. You mention an 816, what is it's role. Do tenants use the 816? The lines will ring diff ring tone. only 8 though. Get an TDA 100 with CID routing. Tenant call go to one line door call to second line.

Get a 'second line' using VoIP and an analogue terminal adapter (or a fixed cellular terminal) for calls from the doorphone, connect it as a trunk to the KXT, and set the extension ringing accordingly.
