When a call is forwarded to an extension, if it is not picked up, the call does not go to voice mail, but is returned to the extension that forwarded it.
Is there a way to stop this?
Can a call be forwarded to another extension, and if that extension does not answer, a voice mail be left at the extension the call was forwarded to?

Are you talking about transferred calls or manually forwarded calls?

Manually forwarded calls will never follow the station's forward path.

These are manually forwarded calls. And I understand that once a call is transferred to another extension, it will not go to that extension's voice mail if not answered, but return to the origianl extension that transferred it.
What I need is a way to circumvent this. When a call is transferred we do not want it to return to the original extension. Could we set up a CRA to an extension with the Overflow and Recall going to a voicemailbox?

Let’s say you want to forward ext. 101 to ext. 102, and have calls end up in mailbox 102…

Create a CRA that times out to ext. 102 and manually forward ext. 101 to that CRA. Calls will follow the VM/AA forward conditions for ext. 102.

The phone that is getting the calls is our switchboard, so I can not manually forward it to one extension or CRA.
Can I create the CRA, and then tell switchboard to forward any calls for that extension to the CRA?
I also thought I could create a Hunt Group, give it a CRA to a voice mailbox for Overflow and Recall, and tell the switchboard operator to forward all calls to that Hunt Group rather than a specific extension.
Would that work?

You could use a hunt group, but recall to a CRA, not overflow.
