The installation manual for the KX-TD1232 states that, for a given line/extension, only one single-line telephone (SLT) can be connected. I'm guessing this has to do with maximum line/loop impedance. Is there a way around this line limit, i.e. could I use a talk/ring voltage booster? My system is only using Bell System era SLTs, and having multiple instruments on a line would be useful.

Panasonic made a 16 SLT extension module (KX-TD174), which would be a drop-in solution, but finding one at a reasonable price has been difficult. (Given the current price of cards vs systems on ebay, buying another TD1232 would be cheaper.)

I"m not sure which IM you're reading, but mine makes no reference to the TD174. Since it doesn't, you may be able to install the module, but it probably won't work in a U.S. system.

As far as the REN, the manual states 600 ohms (at 24 volts) including the set. No REN is mentioned regarding extensions, so the best is to try it. If it trips the ring, you have too many ringers.

Carl: D'oh! Looks like I was reading the European installation manual. (Google, why have you failed me?!) I found a copy of the US manual, and like you said, no mention of a station limit or the TD174.

I'll try testing two model 2500s on a single extension and see what happens. Rookie question: isn't a standard Bell-era SLT a 1-REN load?
