Just another scheme by greedy corporations and their shareholders to maintain control and extract money from your pocket. Before, you bought software (actually the right to use it) and installed it on your machine. You paid for it once so the only way the software companies could make money is to come out with a newer product and convince you that you needed it. That's work. With The Cloud you have no software, it resides on a server someplace and you access it and your data via the internet. You pay the software company a monthly fee plus anything else they can think of to line their pockets or else whatever application you have stops working.
Hosted works the same way. You don't own a phone system, just a few crummy phones that connect to the internet. You pay a monthly fee for the "service". Sounds like a step backward to the old Bell System days but at least their service worked and was reliable.

I wish the IT (idiot tech) people would stop stealing our vocabulary. A cloud floats in the sky and brings rain when you least need it. Now this cloud will also disappoint you when you lose connection and can't do anything, when the server dies and you lose everything forever and when the hackers get in and steal all your info. I agree with Hal it's just another way to fill pockets with our money.

I couldn't agree more with you guys. I will put all this useful info when I send the quote from the vendor to the owner.
Thank you very much.

But just think of the RESIDUAL income LOL
I don't see much difference between digital centrex and cloud systems. It has a very small place if you have Off Premise Stations, but outside of that, the cost per seat gets pretty pricey. We had a customer think the $24.95 was the only cost for a "cloud" system, until he found out is was PER PORT/PER MONTH forever.
Today I'm doing a walk-through for a customer that bought a Panasonic KXT-616 back in 1984, upgraded to a TA-824 in 2008, and is now moving into a 3-story building. I think they have 4 phone lines, which they pay Buckeye Telesystems about $150 a month. Imagine paying $25 a phone for THIRTY years.
Maybe I better rethink my business plan......

But just think of the RESIDUAL income LOL Yeah, I mean nobody can accuse us phone dealers of talking this stuff down because those guys are taking business away from us. We could sell it and make good money but most of us try to do what's right for our customers and in most cases that ain't it. -Hal

Every time I think or hear "cloud" I see dollar bills with wings on them flying to "the cloud"....nothing comes back, just money to "the cloud."

Well...in my vision the dollar bills have wings...but your picture is exactly what conveys the idea. Thank you.

This topic seems to have ended up on a side street. Lets steer it back towards the questions poised by the OP.

Many of these outfits tell you what you want to hear until you e-sign a contract. Then, after they failed to do their research on compatibility, things don't work and they don't know why.
