A doctor's office customer of ours wants their SBX to forward any unanswered incoming CO calls to their answering service automatically after 6 rings.
Is the SBX capable of this and what would be the best way to accomplish?

Yes, and it is pretty simple. If the calls are ringing on one phone such as the operator phone you press speaker, fwd, option 8 and then enter the answering service telephone number. Wait a second though you asked after six rings..that is a different story. Choose option 6 instead of 8. Default timer is 20 seconds which is 5 to 6 rings.

Thanks. The COs ring several phones though. Will this still work?
Is there preset forwarding on the CO that I can assign to an outside number?

you can only preset forward analog trunks and not to an outside number. You would need to preset forward down to one station which is forwarded to an outside number...it can be a virtual station.
Station groups won't really help you either, because they cannot be forwarded directly offsite as well. With FP4 software you can forward to a CCR and overflow to a speed dial number or make one of the choices a speed dial number as well.

I think they would be better served getting CFNA from their telco. If they don't answer before the end of 6 rings, they're probably pretty busy on other calls. That means they probably already have several lines tied up, so the SBX may not able to get a free line to make the call to the service.

You have a point there...they may already have that feature and not know it.
