I just installed IE 7 on my machine and notice that UC 2.1's webclient just sits at the Loadind Screen with an hourglass, not ever bringing up a login screen.
Is there a workaround for this?

Yup, it's called upgrade to UC 4.X. Or don't use IE 7.X or higher.
