So I've been asked my opinion on a weird issue a customer is haveing. They have a 800 number that points to an auto attendant, that routes calls to different locations, or to a mailbox, depending on what they choose. Every month they're getting about 6-10 calls from all over the country that stay online for exactly 512 minutes. It seems like there is a disconnect issue and calls are stuck in a loop or something. Funny thing is, it's at odd hours, not usually during normal business hours. I've checked into toll fraud, they do have trunk to trunk transfer on, but there are no outbound long distance calls at that time. Also, most of the calls appear to be either cell numbers or SIP trunks. Any ideas?

Probably a telemarketing service device that senses ---then hangs up. I have an after hours AA that answers all calls and I get a lot of hangups. They don't appear to wait 512 minutes, though---what kind of a system does your customer have and have you checked to see if you have CPC enabled on your lines? Some telephone systems have that as an option and your carrier should have that on the lines enabled.

That have an Avaya Aura system, with about half a dozen port networks, and a LOT of remote gateways. I've called a few of the numbers that show having called the 800 number, and most are residential or cell phones. I'm thinking it's a spammer that's spoofing caller id via sip trunks or a t1, and there's a disconnect issue with it. I'm just looking for other scenario's.
