Why don't you use their ISP's SMTP server?
It's what I do when they don't have a local SMTP gateway or use a cloud based provider (such as gmail, or office365)

I have found a way to make Gmail accounts work. If you take and use address 173.194.64.27 as the smtp address and port 25. Then leave doman, user and password blank. You will be able to send out emails. Make sure that the reply to and report boxes are filled with an email address you can use to check or receive emails. Then copy information over to mclass and put in email address in mailbox lines as reply to. This works, I have tested it today.
PS...Don't know if this will work the same for non gmail, but worth a shot to try. I know that it worked today on a svmi20e.

I use Jango SMTP, it is a paid service, just a few $$ per month.
Mail servers check to see if mail they receive was indeed sent by what is in the header, so if you use something like gmail and do not have a SMTP service with them your messages will get bounced.
