I'm having a hard time with my "local" support finding any solutions to this problem, we have been adjusting the line volume, but that hasn't helped any. Like my subject states we are getting random echoing from phone stations through our system. This issue has always been present, even after updating out interface versions from 7 to 8. Our phones are the ESI 60's, I'm hoping some one out there has seen this and has found a solution or direction to some help. We are also getting a random spike in volume when paging overhead.

Thanks

what software version is the phone system? and if you unplug a phone and then plug it back in, watch the display it will show you the version of Firmware that the phones are running( ESI has made several improvements recently)

A few questions might help in finding an answer to your question.

1. Are the trunks Analog, T1 or PRI?

2. Do you have IP phones in the system?

3. Is the echoing occurring only on the 60 button phones?

4. Do you experience the echo on interoffice calls?

1. Trunks are Analog
2. All ESI phones are IP (90) (11 analog phones)
3. Yes
4 Yes echoing is intermittent among all IP phones and not just certain stations

Thanks for the replies.

OK. You really need to get a certified ESI dealer in there or call ESI technical and request a site visit by an ESI engineer because your software/firmware is not even near the revision level that can sustain 60 button phones, let alone 60 button IP phones.

The current version and revision of the Comm Server 600 is 16.5.55.6. Old 600 series were software revision 51.30.20 and all those should have been upgraded to the Comm Server platforms by ESI.

You may be able to update the 60 button phones via IP Address software, however, not having the current software revision in the system will limit your ability to get the phones working properly.

I think I must have given you the wrong info, what I read out was off the display of the phone. We just did a server update not to long ago.

OK. You have the latest system software and you have the latest update to your IP phones.

I have several 600 and 1000 Comm Servers using 60 button IP phones and no one is experiencing echo problems. I did have to get matching network switches to make sure all the phones in the various locations were having the same QOS. ESI doesn't address this but we have found this becomes critical for the 40 and 60 button IP phones.

In other words, if all your IP phones are on the same network switch, make sure the switch is preforming up to specification. You may need to get a network technician to run a packet test to see if everything is working. If you have several switches that the phones connect through, they must all be the same kind of switch for the IP phones to work properly. I don't care for Cisco anything, but they do make a good switch. Same as HP ProCurve. If you want to eliminate the network, run tests with a Fluke or other good network tester and verify network quality.

ESI has a known issue ( and a fix) for echo on IP phones using Analog lines. Like Rcaman said, You will need to contact your esi dealer

Nonameyet is correct. ESI does have a fix for the IP phone echoing. I "assumed" your "local support" had already pursued that avenue, however, we all know what happens when one ass-umes.
