I have a customer with an XTS with several VoIP extensions complaining that intermittenly when an extension is called, the phone rings but when answered, there is no audio. The system has 2 VoIP boards: 1 has FW Ver. A1A-2, the other has FW Ver. 10A-2. Could this be the causing the problem?

It could, but this problem is caused more often by low bandwidth which causes jitter, and packet errors. A card reset usually fixes it, for awhile anyway.

It only seems to be a problem on 1 board. I kind of thought it was the provider but they upgraded their service. It just started after Christmas and is intermittent.

Well, I don't think it can hurt to upgrade the firmware and see if that fixes the problem, then again the problem could be at the other end you know, the ip phone connected to that board.

We have had this problem at a couple of different sites. And after some investigating the IP card being on the Public side is appearing like someone or something is trying to hack it. When looking at a trace you will see things like "Cisco" siezing one of the trunks and that is when there will be no audio until a reset works. We have the one site that is consistently having issues and we are going to attempt to put a hardware VPN tunnel in between the remote phones and the VOIP card to see if this will clear the issue up.
