When wiring a Telrad Ipex2 v3.13 phone system with ULD cards and Avanti 3015DF stations, is there a benefit to wiring 2 pair vs. 1 pair? It looks like one ULD card is only able to handle 8 stations when 2 pair is wired vs 16 stations if 1 pair is wired. Other than that con, are there pros to the 2 pair setup?

The Avanti telephones can be wired to the ULD or UHD card using
two wires (designated U+ and U- ) or four wires (designated U+, U-, GROUND, and -48V ). With the two-wire connection the ULD and UHD cards support 16 and eight Avanti telephones, respectively. The the four-wire connection can be used for eight Avanti telephones on the ULD card or four on the UHD card. With a four-wire connection, the distance that the telephones can be from the system cabinet is increased, with certain configurations.
So that said you reduce the number of ports by using 4 wire and should only be used to increase distance in particular for add-ons.

Ok, so there is no advantage if distance is not an issue? The dual audio capability and all other features of the Avanti stations is the same for 2 wires as 4 wires?

As far as I know it only applies to distance. 2 wire half duplex is 1500' and 2 wire full duplex is 1100 feet. Four wire is 1500 for both and an increase in distance limits for add-ons.
