Is it possible for the CIX 40 to specify the outbound calling number for analog trunks?
This company just switched providers. Previously all outbound calling was done over SIP trunks and the provider had it configured so that call recipients would see the company's toll free number.
The system is now set up with analog trunks. The new provider (Comcast) has configured the outbound caller ID for each trunk to be the company's main local number. They still want the outbound caller ID to be their toll free number however. Comcast is saying that it's not technically possible for them to make that adjustment. One tech even said it was illegal. Give me a break! I find it extremely hard to believe that in 2015 this is not as easy as typing in 10 digits in a software console somewhere in their NOC and clicking Update. Am I wrong?
If they can't do it is it possible for the CIX system to send Calling Number Identification on analog trunks and work around the provider?

No, it is not possible on analog trunks from any carrier on any PBX system. You will only get this from a PRI or SIP trunks.
Some carriers will present a toll free number, but they may only do this for you if the toll free number is with that carrier. They would probably not want to push it out if it is not a number on their system.
Spoofing a fake number would be illegal, but I don't think it is illegal as long as you present a number that you own.
