For a fax machine:

Set speed dial 01 to the trunk access code and activate hotline for that extension. All there is to it, right?

I've got the two extensions programmed as fax, and a message receiver set.

But, I still have to assign a personal line so incoming faxes terminate, yes?

If the fax machine going to be the only device using the particular line (POTS?) you can assign the line directly to the extension and configure the extension as a fax machine (I think that was what I did to connect an external ringer to my Church's Magix).

If you're in PBX mode, assign the pool to the Fax extension, go to Centralized telephone programming and set the pool "button" to No Ring, then set Automatic Line Select to grab the pool first.

If you're using PRI/T1, make the fax extension number match the incoming DNIS, if it's a single dedicated number that is shared on the system with the other phones (hopefully not also in the pool), assign the single line, assign the pool, set the pool to No Ring, the line to Immediate Ring, the ALS to the private line and then the pool.

Yes, it is the only device on the trunk, a standard LS trunk on port 820 (408 LS/GS-MLX-ID) and the fax is plugged into a 012TR in the next slot. Extension is renumbered to 3310.

So, I assigned the trunk on 820 to extension 3310. Do I still need to set ALS for that extension?

Yes, still set the ALS so that you don't need to dial 9 and go through ARS to send faxes.

So will the fax be an overflow for another fax, or receive faxes from another machine on the system? Seems silly to put a dedicated line on the system and point to a single extension, unless you need to do some special routing over other lines in addition to the dedicated line.

The only reason I really run it through the system at all is that a lot of people fax stuff to the main number instead of the fax number. This way the attendant can transfer these calls to the fax extension. Also, I like the fax notification feature.
