Does anyone have a recommendation for a high quality music on hold player? Got a client that currently has a Pro Digital unit and is unhappy with the sound. We've uploaded songs to the specs of the unit but it doesn't sound good. This is for an advertising agency specializing in audio/video so they want the highest quality possible.

How about Premier Technologies? Another avenue to explore would be an MOH streaming service. smile

Thanks Dex. Streaming MOH sounds interesting, I'll look into it. We used to use premier technologies. I'll email them as well..

I have had good luck using the OHP-8000 from https://www.onholdplus.com/music-on-hold-systems/

I prefer the Premier Tech over the OHP's only because of the warranty. I normally use the On Hold Message Studio and Goldwave to produce the final product.

I think you are barking up the wrong tree. It ain't the player, it's the crappy phone service and to a lesser extent the phone system. Nearly all digital MOH players are capable of far exceeding the fidelity that a present day crap phone connection can handle, and that's for a land line. If you want to talk about a cell call, hell, most times they can barely handle voice grade audio so what do you think is going to happen to music? I've noticed how VoIP services apparently change their sample rate when traffic increases resulting in MOH being hacked up and cutting in and out. After all, it isn't designed for music but to provide the highest number of voice calls. Voice audio takes up less bandwidth and is non-concurrant in nature as compared to music which is more continuous. When somebody stops talking they can put a part of another conversation in the space. I also think that they sense music and don't give it any priority, cutting it off when the voice traffic requires it.

If you want to prove this to your customer just use some high quality music source like a CD player or an iPod connected in place of the player and listen for any difference.

I have always been under the impression that the voice signal on a phone line has been filtered down to a very narrow bandwidth that we can hear. So no matter what you feed into to it music wise, you're never going to get better than this filtered voice quality.

Has this changed?
