The voicemail light on a single STS 24 button (3515-71) phone would not turn off. I went through the normal procedure to get the flash vm card to turn off the light without success. Pressing reset on the ksu cleared the problem. It has happened a few times in the last 3 months. The customer has reset the ksu and resolved the trouble. Yesterday, the voicemail lights were "on" at all stations. Reset cleared the lights. I suspect a bad flash voicemail card. Any other suggestions?

A malfunctioning flash voice mail card could be the culprit. I have known it to happen a few times myself. A voice mail reset button press helps without having to reset the whole phone system.

Does the customer happen to have voice-mail from the phone company? Don't forget that can also trigger the light on the STS.

I will have them reset the VM card instead of the system and see what the results are. They do not have VM from the telco.

Even though you say they don't have Telco voice messaging on line 1, I would still personally confirm it with a 3rd party MW lamp. That is the only time I have seen this condition like Larry has indicated.

Thank you for the replies. The customer emailed a picture of her phone to me today. The programmable light above the display on the STS phone is "on". It is programmed in flash 50 as a voicemail indicator. Button 24 is also programmed for voicemail (440) but it is not turned on and she does not have any indication of new messages in her display. She pressed the reset button on the flash voicemail card and it turned off the light above the display. I have never experienced a condition where telco voicemail affects the light. Do you know how the system detects telco voicemail and is there any option to disable it?

There is no option to disable the light above the display without disabling the light for the system voice mail as well. You have to have it turned off by the telco. Usually stutter dialtone is activated when the telco has an active message and the 440 light could still be off because there is no message in the system voice mail for that phone.

We checked the lines and there is no VM indication from the Telco. I do not think the STSe has the ability to turn on the indicator light even if there was. This system is an STSe running Ver. 1.01 firmware. Is it possible that this was a bug in early versions of the firmware? I am going to change the function of the light to "none". If the lights still turn on, then it's most likely not related to voicemail.

I do not think the STSe has the ability to turn on the indicator light even if there was. Trust us. It is automatic and just happens but I don't remember why. But reassigning the button should put a band-aid on it.
