When a caller calls and extension and it is busy and forwards to VMS, the caller can push * and back out to the Auto Attendant and dial another extension.
If the extension is not busy and it times out to VMS, the only "out" is to dial 0, which does not help much.
Any ideas on how I can change it so the caller can * back to the auto attendant?

The only option once the call gets to a VM box is "0" however the "0" can be configured to route to a diffrent location and configured per mailbox. This is configured using the dial 0 destination located under VM programming.

I was afraid someone would say "0" is the only option.
It is funny in that what MRBr6 said is not EXACTLY true. If it get to a mail box because the extension is busy, I can get out after leaving my message by pressing * twice. But when I get to a MB due to no anwser, I cannot.
Thanks!
