What is the best way to backup a Talkpath VM system? I have recently inherited some Vodavi systems and need to back them up. I have a program named Admin 3.2 that is on the old telephony administrator's PC.

You use ecom to back the voice mails up. The Dispatch/Talkpath runs on pc dos and there are a lot of steps to backing them up. I suggest you find a talkpath/dispatch installers manual. Admin 3.2 which is for the voice mail only, is quite old, there is a new version available. Both the new one and 3.2 contain Ecom

As derrick said. I also image the drive as a back up. Quicker than using Ecom

I did find some old instructions on how to backup using Ecom. It seems to connect with the Talk Path but then I cannot read the screen. I think some of the modem options are set up wrong. Can you tell me what these settings should be? The screen looks like ~?~?~?~?~?~?~?~?~?~?~?~?~?~?|@H

Baud rate is off I think.

Keep in mind that a full backup #3 can easily take up to 24 hours at 9,600, so I like to change the baud rate to 38,400 at least for the duration of the backup. It helps a little bit. I then change it back to 9,600 when I'm done.
I sure wouldn't be trying to do this remotely though. That's a recipe for disaster.

I knew there was a reason I never backed one up.

It's the transfer, not the backup that is so bad. But I rarely used backup 1,2 or 3. When I want to tranfer data, I pull the HD and use a USB to IDE adapter. I also do that for a defrag. I have no confidence in the PCDOS Defrag Utility.
