Is there any way to create an extension that when dialed will direct the call to an outside number. this is on a cix670.

currently all our extensions are in the 200-300 range. i would like to create a bogus extension that doesnt have any desk phone hardware associated with it but only forwards the call to an outside line.

is this possible?

The popular way to do this is by using a Phantom extension. The bad part (at least in my opinion) is that it occupies a button on someone's phone (usually the reception) and that phone will forever show CF EXTERNAL on the display. You can scroll the display, but it usually goes back to this.

If you use a phantom, then that phone will need to be the owner of the phantom. Then you press the button and enter the call forward all code, #6011 9 {Phone Number} #.

thanks for your help. i had thought about this as an option but i thought that maybe there was another way that would be a little more clean. assuming theres no other way I'm probably going to go this route.

Just point the DID to the outside number , set for dialing digits and put the line access code followed by the outside number.

Also, if you need an extension from the voicemail, you can have the voicemail system transfer externally.

There is another method that I started to use recently. Basically you would create a Multiple call group and use the remote call forward code #6012 to forward that MCG pilot externally.
