Residential customer was asking about going to Ooma for phone service. It's one of those "Dial Tone over DSL" things. He has a monitored alarm system.
I told him that POTS is the best for alarms, modems, or faxes, but he says his landline is too expensive.
Has anyone here used Ooma or some similar service with fax, modem, or alarms?

Most those service state in their disclaimers NOT for use on faxes and alarm systems. From their WEB site:

I have an Ooma line at home and my alarm system ( DSC 832 ) is connected to it and communicates with the central station fine. If I remember correctly I had to add a prefix code before the number, but it has been rock solid ( monthly tests ) for over a year now.
