My customer recently experienced a power surge while the power company was working in the next block. It affected several computers as well as the phone system. I replaced and reprogrammed the Infinite Mach 1 KSU and all was well until I called in to test the voice mail. It answers when it should but only plays a factory greeting "Enter the mailbox number of the person you are trying to reach. Press zero for the operator. Press star for the directory." I am not an Infinite dealer so I can't call tech support. I replaced this KSU a few years ago with no problems. The recorded greeting is still there and all the mailboxes function normally. I even reinstalled the old KSU and it does the same thing. This problem may have been present before I changed the KSU, but it seems too simple to be caused by the power surge. Is it a dial string problem from the KSU or a voice mail problem?

Before I can help, I have a few questions:

1. When you say you call the voice mail, are you dialing just the extension number of a port or are you calling from outside?

2. When you dial 440 from an extension, are you prompted to enter a password?

3. Are you sure this is a digital Talkpath (blue cabinet)?

The good news is that there are no dialing strings necessary with the digital Talkpath, so this should be a quick fix.

Thanks for your reply.
1. Yes, I was referring to an outside call that was not receiving the correct greeting.
2. Yes, when you dial 440 you are asked to enter your password.
3. Yes, it is a blue box. Ext 116 and 123 are the voice mail extensions.

OK, here are a couple of things to try:

1. It's generally best for the VM ports to be on adjacent digital station ports. This is not mandatory as long as they are on the same card. Have the station ports been renumbered and now possibly residing on different cards?

2. How is your ringing set for the CO lines? If it goes to the attendant only and then relies upon station forwarding to hit the Talkpath, that might be your problem. If that is the case, set the lines to preset forward to VM under flash 40, page B.

3. If they aren't already, you should put the Talkpath's station ports into a hunt group and have the CO lines point to that rather than to 440. Doing so removes any treatment of the CO calls with voice mail services and will assure you of reaching the main greeting.

Another question: Does the recorded main greeting play if you dial X116 or 123?

Aside from these ideas, we may need to look into the programming of the Talkpath itself.

Thanks for the suggestions.
These voice mail extensions have been used even before I took over the maintenance four years ago, and the station ports have not been renumbered.
Preset call forwarding to 440 is being used to reach the auto attendant (10 sec. delay).
The recorded greeting does play when the voice mail extensions are dialed.
I will try using a hunt group instead of 440 and see how that works. I will let you know in a couple of days.
If you think of something else let me know.

Thanks again,
Dave

I just wanted to let you know that setting up hunt group 450 worked, and the main greeting is now heard when calling in from outside.

Thanks for your help,
Dave

Hello I almost the same problem? When calling instead of getting main greeting you get the receptionist mailbox 101? Did 450 hunt group work and how so? Thank You if you remember.
