We are in need of a technician in the Indianapolis metro area who can handle routine service calls for several of our customers. Most calls are the result of line-related issues. Experience with Vodavi and Vertical systems is preferred, but not required. Please contact me if you're available. We have work scheduled for immediate dispatch. Call 540-623-7100.

Well, obviously posting to find technicians sure doesn't work well here. Every single time I post for one, all I ever get is crickets. What's happened to this place? It used to be a hotbed for business exchange. Now it seems as if I'm speaking to an empty room. Maybe everyone is just too busy to take on any more work? Now that one made me laugh at myself.
I guess it doesn't matter now. I found someone the old fashioned way. I'd have rather given a few hundred dollars of business to a member here, but from what you said Dave, maybe there just aren't any technicians in Indiana!

Ed, like you in the past, I've gotten any number of techs from this board. And all good ones. Just technologies have changed so much, many techs are very limited in what they can do and what they know.

I know, but all that I'm usually seeking is someone with a butt set who knows how to call me for technical support. I always make that perfectly clear when I post. I just don't get the fact that nobody's interested in making a few hundred bucks any more.

Whenever I see these, I judge them by direction, distance and total payment. It's 220 miles to Indy in the wrong direction. My closest customers that way are in Ft. Wayne (100 miles away) or Lima (50 miles). Now if you had 4-6 hours of work, I might consider it, but it's not a trip I'd make every week even. It's automatically 7 hours of driving.

Been burned helping others who say they will pay but end up not doing as they promise. There is a group of guys here that I would step to the plate for without batting an eye but it seems anymore the only people who are asking for the help are not us telephone people they are the IT guys, end users, and worse trunkers! Face it I guess our discipline is being eliminated, people like us are falling by the way and the industry has moved to network and hosted systems. I've tried to learn the new way but it's way too late to teach this old dog new tricks. Almost 30 years and I see the writing on MY wall and I accept it.

I think there's just fewer of us left doing this work.

Well, I chose to take the high road and contacted one of our suppliers that happens to be located in Indianapolis. They referred me to one of their customers who stepped in and saved the day. So far, I've dealt with three of their employees, all of whom have been extremely professional, prompt and gave me a good feeling about telecom companies working to help each other out.
NIMBO-IP. Strange name, but amazingly professional people. I am very impressed. Give them a call if you find yourself in my predicament (317-574-1000). Good folks.

Shoutout to Carl for helping me out last month. Had a customer who needed some programming changes that I was not able to do and he took care of them!
