Hi Everyone,
This is my first post here. I'm the new recipient of a Harris TS30 model 30800-0009. Picked up on flea bay. As I bought the least expensive one I could find that didn't look like it had been through hell and back I was anticipating it to have some issues. It does. The Talk Monitor switch was broken. I took it apart and there is a rocker in there which kind of snaps into a housing which had come loose. I got that back in there and it feels like it operates correctly compared to the pulse/tone switch. However when I hooked it up to my phone line to test I notice a pretty strong hum when in talk mode, about the volume of the dial tone if not a little louder. I was able to call in to my line and in talk mode I also here the hum on the device calling. In monitor mode the volume is lower but the hum is still there.
So, I'm thinking either: A) The talk/monitor switch is still a little fackocked or B) There is something else wrong.
If there is something else wrong I assume a cap has gone bad as that is what I typically look for in random pieces of electronics that are not working correctly. But there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of schematic, info on these units.
So before I go ripping out parts and making myself crazy(er) does anyone have experience with these units or know of a common component that would fail in a typical butt set circuit that would cause a similar issue?
I may try a bit of deoxit in the switch while I wait and see if that clears anything up.
Thanks!! Joe

It sounds like a dial pad key is partially engaged. I'd take that part of the set apart and hit it with some contact cleaner. Those rubber buttons can get partially stuck due to dirt/debris. Some Windex and contact cleaner should have you going in no time. I've been using my TS30 for ten years with no trouble. Not bad for a low-end butt set.
