It is definitely a Western Electric panel coin phone that utilizes the inner workings of their standard 1D version. It looks to be a late 80's version, so I'm guessing that it has the inner chassis of a 1D2 model. You're probably going to have to drill out the locks for both the phone and the coin box, which is NOT an easy task, especially with a panel phone. I'd contact a good locksmith if I were you, but they probably won't have the T key that is needed to operate the latching mechanisms once the locks have been dismantled. Usually, the upper housing key was universal throughout the region for technicians to use, but the coin box key was unique to each phone for security reasons. I'd contact www.payphone.com to obtain guidance and to purchase the T key (those are cheap). They can also sell you the replacement locks to put it back together.

I bought a T key and was very fortunate to find a key which opened this panel phone. It hinges open right to left and now I can attempt hook up the dial tone.
I can't open the coinbox but I don't think I will need to do that.
Something different for a change!

Don't attempt to open the coin box. Jimmy Hoffa is in there. Rcaman
