Are there any solutions out there that basically "build your own" local Docsis network?
I can think of several times where I could run RG6 or RG11 much easier than fiber and termination costs are much lower. Sometimes infrastructure is already there.
Does a such thing really exist (cost prohibitive of course)?

Check ebay. People unloading Docsis 2.0 CMTS for pretty cheap ($2k or there abouts). Yea 2.0 is older stuff but still viable.

Phybridge is pretty specific about their product applications, this device is for ip cameras and they also make one pair wire (any kind) to ethernet adapters for ip phones...great for retrofitting an old building with no cat5 cabling.

It seems Phybridge has improved their switches, they will now extend a data network over one pair or coax as well.
