I agree completely! The IT geeks absolutely love to do this. They wouldn't know what to do if they couldn't do it with a keyboard and monitor and a GUI. Guess it's the way their brains work. We mostly do Partner systems and I can have it programmed and running before someone else could get their laptop from the truck and set it up. -Hal

via a phone is generally quicker. Many times it is hard to get the recept. off the phone so you can use it to program. I also like being able to sit on my couch with a glass of Jack, program an entire database, save it, then go to site and upload and be done.

most phone systems today allow you to program from any extension.........
also, the systems that restrict you to programming from 1 set port (shiba x005) I always do not assign that port but rather break it out into the phone closet and do my programming there.......
BESIDES.....I love dark closets....its been something I have been fascinated with for many years........way before I got in the phone business........

Partner, Legend, Magix, Panasonic, Comdial, Toshiba, Mitel. do not allow "any extension" programming. You may want to re state that statement. Its 2005 you should come out of the closet, people are ok with your type now.

I still like the phone but it seem that with the pots and hybrid systems going away that we are all soon to be stuck with is a pc. so my fix on systems that allow software phones is I put one on my laptop and program from it (the best of both worlds) I think LOL
(wannabe geek but wont quit the biz)

I loved phone programming it WAS great however the complexity of some of the new systems seem to make it harder and harder to program by phone, try programming a full blown Toshiba CTX 670 by phone, it isn't going to happen unless just a minor change. The Geeks are taking over and we are going to either have to join um or leave um! Scary thought for some us old guys.

I only program by laptop when necessary, since a customer reached behind my laptop, caught the cable and pulled it off the desk, of course it smashed!
