Are the steps for turning on the ringer of a standard GLX phone the same as the plus? I turn on the program switch, go to the handset, on the keypad push #2 then I push the same buttons I would push to get on the outside lines, then I pick up the phone hang it back up and turn the program switch back to off. It beeps when I push the # the 2 and then I hear the dial tone on speaker phone when I hit the line buttons, seems like it is not in program mode at all. Any ideas? I have two phones doing the same thing, other phones on the system are fine, they are the GLX plus. If you switch the phones around they ring at the other positions so it has something to do with where they are not the phone.

Yes the programming code is the same.

Have you tried putting one of the good programming phones in the bad spot? Resetting the system?

You could also try just pressing #2 then picking up and hang up hand set. This sets the phone not to ring. Then go back and reprogram it to ring again. You should get a confirmation tone after hanging up.

Hey Construct30,

Welcome to Tech Talk!

Just to add to RCA's comments. You are right that based on your description, the system does not seem to be in programming mode. I say this because you should not be hearing dialtone when pressing the line buttons after the "#2" when the system is in programming mode.

Other than that, the procedure you described is correct. I would definitely follow RCA's suggestion regarding resetting the system. This would be accomplished by shutting off the power briefly (a solid 10 count on the GLX-12 & GLX-Plus will suffice).

The next option might be defaulting the database which is a little more involved.

Please let us know if you need additional assistance!

Good luck!

I figured I better update this for anyone having the same trouble.

I called an old retired guy and he came out and got the phones ringing, when I was not there of course. As near as I can tell, what was missing was, I needed to pick up and hang up to reset between each line to program them. I was entering the code and hitting each line at the same time. Each line needs to have the code entered and the line done seperate. I hope that makes sense.

thanks for all the help and replies

construct30,

Thanks for the interesting update. I'm glad the "wisdom-rich, senior-level, male, former technician" got it working for you!

However, the procedure you described that you had previously followed is correct. That's straight out of the Inter-Tel GLX-12, formerly GLX and GLX-Plus Installation and Programming Manual.

The fact that you were getting dial tone after pressing "#2", followed by whichever line key you next pressed, tells me the system simply was not in programming mode. Had it truly been in programming mode, your keystrokes would not have resulted in the keyset going off-hook in speakerphone mode on the line associated with the line-button you pressed. Perhaps the Programming (toggle) Switch is defective and on its way out, not always making proper contact. I wonder if the trouble you encountered with the two stations in question was during the same programming session as the successful attempts on other stations.

Anyway, thanks for letting us know your issue is resolved!

Have a great 4th! :toast:
