I have no idea why my ext 282 says extension vacant when the phone is connected, can make direct calls and call other extensions. I there a setting i might have changed or any other reason; and most importantly, is there a fix..

Can you make an internal call from ext 282?
Do you have a 282 PDN key on the handset?
What type of system is it running on and what type of handset is it?

I can make an internal call from 282. I dont have a 282 PDN key, should i? Toshiba DKT3020 handset for this phone, but the majority are 5000 series. (They didnt work when switching the phone) and i belive its a TOSHIBA CIX 670.

You should have a PDN 282 key otherwise you will not be able receive any internal calls when 282 is rung.
Program the key back up with immediate ringing and test it again.
