This is not just a minor annoyance. When I say these callers pound my phone number, I mean they repeat call the number continuously. Basically the phone equivalent of a "denial of service" attack. If it's as severe as you say you shouldn't be having this problem. Have you talked with your service provider? I know you don't like to change your number but I would do it while changing providers also. Keep changing your number until you get a virgin one. Another tactic that has helped me is white listing on my phone. I set it up so that only people in my contact list will ring. Although the spam will go to VM, eventually they seem to get the message. And if the call is legitimate and not on my list- too bad. -Hal

Just kidding about the tinfoil big fella. Just tell the callers they have reached the police department and a uniformed officer will be paying them a visit. SO PLEASE DON'T HANG UP!

The best one I have found is... https://www.spydialer.com/default.aspx .It works really well with cell numbers and if the number is "unavailable", you can click on the "hear voicemail" and listen to their personal vm greeting. I believe it works with land lines as well now.

I find that blowing a police whistle into the transmitter of the phone, once I'm speaking to a live person (almost always with a headset) works beautifully.
