After leaving the Nortel products, I installed a couple of DSX-40 systems, then did several SL1100's. A friend is suggesting that I look at the SV9100 for future installs.

What is the progression of NEC systems? SL1100, SV8100, and then SV9100? Is the 9100 too big for a small office (about 15 phones)? Is programming any more logical or simpler than the 1100? And cost to the customer: is the 9100 going to be anywhere close to the 1100?

I know I'll have to get certified. Another learning curve. There will be more telephone choices for the customer. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Jim

Unlike the SL1100 the SV9100 you have to be a NEC dealer or a reseller of a NEC dealer to sell the SV product lines.

Does that mean big $$ minimum sales per year?

Is the 9100 the next generation, after the 8100?

The UX5000/sl1100/IPK-II/SV8100/SV9100 all use the same core program. The SV series has more of it with more options and better phones. The SV9100 is a grown up 8100, in that the licensing is different, newer phones, more software options. It comes in two sizes, the 9100S and 9100E. The "S" is a smaller cabinet with 3 card slots (the CPU uses the first one) and 48 ports. Software assurance is not required for it. The "E" is bigger with 6 card slots (CPU uses the first one). Both can be expanded. You can get them from a dealer or reseller.

Yoda,

Dealer ships do have minimum sales per year.
NEC is picky on who they award dealer ships to, they do not like bad publicity, that goes for dealers and resellers. I have seen them drop both.

SV9100 is replacing the SV8100

I recommend being a reseller.

Reseller sounds like my fit. Will have to see if I want to put myself through changing to another system.

Thanks for the info guys.

You can use the larger 6 slot cabinet with the "S" platform too. I use it most of the time as it gives flexibility on wall vs rack mounting and if the customer ever decides to expand, it makes it easier.

Yoda,
The 9100 programs just like the SL1100 so your learning curve won't be much. It's the licensing and all that becomes the learning curve.
