I've put in two different CS200's in two different sites. Problem is one or two 48 button phones will have what looks like hieroglyphics running across the display. I have changed the base cord, changed the phone and even swapped the station cards around. One solution is I swapped a 48 with a 24 button and no problems. This new customer wands his 48 button so I won't be able to get around this. Anyone run into this issue before?

The best way to troubleshoot this condition is to connect a jack at the MDF to that station port and plug the 48 button into the port. If you get a clean display, you may have a cable issue to that station location.
If you are still getting the corrupt display, then you may want to call ESI and have them get in and look at the system live. In debug, they may be able to see what is happening.
Swapping the 48 button with a 24 doesn't do much. The 24 does not have the same number of display lines as a 48.
I have had this problem on several systems. The causes are as follows in descending order:
1. Bad cable pairs 2. Station cable laying on or wrapped around a fluorescent lighting fixture 3. Bad station jack 4. Corrupted CF 5. Old firmware on the 48 key phone Rcaman

OR...You can try adding a Wad of Extra Cross connect..some ESI Phones don't work real close to the system ( weird , I Know) I have done many install's where I would set up a test phone directly plugged into a 66 block using a Telstar adapter and Never had any issues ..But, put it on a station cable less than 25-30 ft away..all kinds of issues( so, when you make the wad, make it about 45 to 50 feet...Looks Nasty, but...it usually works.
I can see the light at the end of the tunnel..

ESI has real issues with cable pairs. If anything is on the outside pair of the middle pair it will and does cause issues. Best thing IMHO and experience is to make or carry only 1 pair line cords for the phones.

We have not experienced the condition Brian wrote about in the Comm Servers. That was a huge issue with the S class especially the 56S.
In the Comm Server, we have learned to keep the station cables away from any kind of lighting ballast as well as from cables that power heavy motors. In those situations, if the motors or discharge lighting is not in conduit, we place our station cables in metal conduit. With these precautions in place, we do not experience the problem.
All ESI telephones are shipped with a single pair mounting cord. We don't use existing mounting cords.
