We have 2 5200 systems utilizing the BVM. What are the deciding factors to add the CPS and VPU servers?

Wouldn't you add Enterprise Messaging instead of the VPU?

That's what I was thinking too...how many vm boxes do you have now?

I think v2.4 is the last revision on the 5000 that will integrate the VPU..

Are the 5200's digital or IP? If they're all digital then you really don't need the PS-1 (5000 equivalent of the CPS) and unless you want advanced UM or faxing, need more than 8 ports or just need a ton of mailboxes the BVM works quite well.

VM for Node 2 is being handled by VPU at Node 1 which has over 400 endpoints, phantom devices and applications. Node 3 currently has less than 20 endpoints. I've not seen Unified Messaging, so please for my ignorance. Does UM take over for both CPS and VPU? What is the mailbox limit in BVM?

All endpoints on the 5200s are IP.

How on earth did you get 400 endpoints on a 5200? I think there's more to this configuration. Sounds like you have an Axxess at N1 with a VPU.

What are you trying to do?

You are correct. Sorry for not making that clear. Node 1 has an Axxess V10. Nodes 2 and 3 have 5200s. VPU on Node 1 supports the voicemail for node 2. What are the factors to determine when the 5000 series PBX should be upgraded to the external controllers? I just want to know the signs so I don't get caught with my pants down.

You stated 5200's. Are these using digital or IP endpoints?
