I have gotten into several somewhat tounge and cheek heated conversations with different service provider techs over bridging clips. I contend it is the service providers responsibility to install bridging clips. Others have heatedly dissaggreed with me. What's the consensus of you guys out there in the "big world"?

Hmmm interesting question because I always carry them. I would assume the telco is required to (I don't know) because from what I understand on an RJ21X we are required to come off the right side on anphenol cable. I think they are required to get it to that side.

We always carry them also. Verizon hasn't provided a 66 block type RJ21X for many years instead we have Krone- no bridging clips required. Only time this would be an issue would be when adding lines to old stuff. Sometimes they provide them sometimes we do. Neither of us thinks we have a responsibility, rather it's usually that they forget then we handle it. No big deal.

they are everywhere.....on the floor, in the cabinets, on top of power supplies (and dont lie you have all done this) on the floor of your service vehicles...in your pants pockets when you do laundry (and you have done this also)....

so if they are needed....just use em...

I haven't bought any of the conventional bridge clips in years. I, too, find them all over the place. I do buy the two-pin kind (white plastic) for good customers and for new intalls.

I have had heated discussions with carriers but not over bridge clips......I am just happy when they show up less than an hour late for a vendor meet/cut-over!

The answer to your question is very simple. The orange cover that the "telco" provides on their RJ21X jack (which is described and mandated by the FCC) says in pretty stern lettering "TO BE OPENED BY TELEPHONE COMPANY PERSONNEL ONLY."

That tells me not to break the rules and to depend upon "THE TELEPHONE COMPANY PERSONNEL ONLY" to ensure that the pairs are bridged through to the 25 pair connector on the right side, as mandated by the FCC.

Half of the CLEC's that we encounter send their dial tone "backward" into the RJ21X jack by running a double-ended cable from their channel bank to the "output" connector on the jack with no markings or bridging clips. We must "break the law" by opening the cover to gain access to the "Telepone Company Only" terminals. We can then gain access to the pairs, only to find the clips missing. We must then "break the law" to check on the secure side of the block (Telepone Company Personnel Only) to find out if they delivered dial tone or not. It's usually just battery while the customer's main number receives "This number is not in service" messages.

By the way, these messages must be coming from your customer's PBX because according to their records, everything is correct.

Of course, we all know that this "regulation" is such a bunch of garbage. The "Telephone Company Personnel" as so boldly mentioned on the cover rarely leave the site with everything in working order. They test for circuit connectivity and leave it for the <Jabroney> people at the switch end to handle the final connections.

Oh, get real! What are those stupid orange covers for? To keep the customers out? It's a good thing that they can be easily opened so that we can do the "TELEPHONE COMPANY PERSONNEL" job to save them the cost of hiring qualified technicians.

Any comments?????

I may be sarcastic, but not cruel. If all of us did our jobs (which MOST of us do), this forum wouldn't need to be here!
