It goes back to a Bell Telephone tech could work on ANY telephone system or product, or, could get someone in the system who could.

The other reason is people are conditioned to think of telephone equipment as being the same across all manufactures. After all, they all do the same thing, right?

Years ago, we had techs carrying around 25 different manuals on their trucks and it became a nightmare. We decided to settle one one system for small and medium customers and another for large systems. Over the years those lines have blurred and we sell one solution for all sizes.

I used the plastic milk crates from grocery stores to carry around all the manuals...

1A2'S: KSU's, and BPS...
AT&T: Merlins, Spirit, Partner's...
Comdial: Digitec, Executech, Impact...
DASH OPS...
Eagle: series...
ESI: IVX's
Intertel: GLX's, GMX's...
Lucent: Partner's, ACS's...
Macrotel: MT's
NEC's:Portrait, 28's, DM's, ModKey's, Aspire, Onyx, UX5000...
Nitsuko I-Series
Norstar: Merdian, ICS's...
Northcom: 1A3, 306/616...
Panasonic: 308/616/1232 et cetera, DCS..
Samsung: Prostar's...
Sprint: Premier, Protégé, Macro-cell
SWBell: Freedom...
Tie: Businesscom, CX/HX, EK, Modkey...
Toshiba: Strata III through XX, DK 24 through DK280, DK8 through 40i...
Vodavi: Starplus EX/Flex/Digital, DHS...

Then comes all the Voice Mails:
DOS, NT and Proprietary...Sprint, Key Voice, Teledata, Vodavi, Lucent...

Oh, and don't forget paging: Bogen, Viking...

and all the paraphernalia for Special Circuits USOC wiring...
The Laptops with a ton of different cables and adapters for connectivity.

The company what's to know why I got poor gas mileage carrying 20 boxes of cable, a KSU with multiple cards and 75 keysets
crazy

I REALLY don't miss those days!
