Is there a way to have a private line on a partner ACS Ver 3 with a Voice messaging PC card so that when a certain number is called, it rings only to that ext and gets that ext mailbox? I know I can get in to line access and turn that line off at all ext's but I'm having trouble getting it to go to the voicemail box of the correct ext. They want to dedicate line 4 for a separate business. Thank you.

Use Call Coverage. Assign the extension in #208. Make sure it's not assigned in #206.

Thanks Hal, It's still going to the AA even if I take it out of #206.I must be missing something. If I call the ext directly it goes to VM.

No. The CO line in #206 group 7 not assigned (2). If you do that I can't see how the VM still picks it up.

That used to be my stance, that if you were going to use #208 to make the line cover to a mailbox that #206-7 needed to be 2-Not Assigned, as 3-VMS Line Cover is intended for Partner Mail, PM VS, and Partner Messaging, where you set Line Ownership within the voicemail itself.

But I ran into an R6 a long while back, where #208 would not pick up until I set #206-7 to 3, so give it a shot.

I've tried it both ways and I still go to the AA greeting. I talked to the customer and said we could put an answering machine on the line and he said that is totally acceptable. So I always have that to fall back on. Thanks for your help.

Are you sure that you are assigning the correct line? If you take a line out of 206 it cannot go to the AA so you must be doing something wrong.

Example Line 2 to be covered by Ext. 11

#206-7-02-3
#208-02-11
#310-11-1
Ensure that Line 2 rings (Immediate or Delayed) on Ext. 11

Tommy- since I can't remember crap anymore I referred to what you wrote many years ago:

Quote
Use "Call Coverage":

The answering extension must have the line assigned to it, and have Immediate or Delayed Ring. It must have Auto VMS Cover, and a mailbox. The extension that will cover the line is assigned in #208-NN-XX, AND in #206-7-NN-2 (NOT ASSIGNED)

Use "Line Ownership":

The answering extension must have the line assigned to it, and have Immediate or Delayed Ring. It must have Auto VMS Cover, and a mailbox. The extension that will cover the line is assigned IN THE VOICEMAIL, under the Line Ownership menu. The line is assigned to VMS Line Cover in #206-7-NN-3, and the setting in #208-NN must be CLEARED.

What's the difference in the two approaches? Using Call Cover, the covering extension can go into DND and the calls will be answered immediately. Using Line Ownership, the owner extension can go into DND, and the line will continue to ring on any other extensions that receive the line.

If you are using PC Card Mail, there is NOT a Line Ownership option, so you must use Call Coverage
instead.

Note that with Call coverage it's #206-7-NN-2 (NOT ASSIGNED)
