I am the service provider and we are providing sip accounts for a customer who has bought a Mitel 5000. Our equipment is a Cisco IAD2431 and we are connecting to their PBX with the T1 port configured as a 16 channel PRI.
The problem is that they can pick up the phone and get dial tone that is generated by the mitel. They dial 8 + 7 digits and after a few seconds you hear a slight pause and then dial tone again. The second dial tone is being generated by the Cisco box. During this dial tone you can dial the 7 digits again and the call will complete.
Talking to the tech that is installing the Mitel it seems like the Mitel isn't very flexable so I am trying figure out a way to change my end. I am hoping someone has gone through this before with another provider. I know that Nuvox uses the same Cisco box on their VoIP product.

What happens if the user does a direct trunk select? It sounds like there is setting mismatch that you equipment is disregarding the digits that the 5000 system is sending to you.

If you hit 8 and then # you can get dial tone from the IAD and then dial any number. I have been through just about any option that I can try and change and I still get the same thing. Is there a way to change dialing 8's behavior? I.E. can it be changed to where it does the same thing as the 8 + #?

I'm not the ARS wizzard but think your phone system tech can insert the 8# ahead of any number actually just the # you want them to dial 8 for the trunk or you could have the tech program as house phones, that will remove the 8 and just give prime line Randy

Dialing '8' does not necessarily mean you are accessing dialtone from the IAD. You could be accessing ARS.
If the installing tech told you the Mitel isn't very flexible, probably what that really means is that he doesn't really understand it because it is very capable. The 5000 should have no trouble interfacing w/ the Cisco.
See if you can find out the 'Trunk Group' extension from the Mitel. It probably is 92001. Try dialing that, then dialing an outside number. If that works, then dialing '8' means you are accessing ARS and it is not programmed correctly.

It has to do with the calling party number assigned to the extension you are calling from. Program a ten digit phone number that is on the PRI and give it a try.
