I can't seem to find this option in the station programming.
I would like to program Hold to the Idle mode/Silence, not the intercom dial tone.
Any advice appreciated?

I don't know of any Vodavi or Vertical product that doesn't go to intercom dial tone by default. I sure don't know of any settings to do this.

That is very surprising and odd given the granularity of their feature programming.

Are you talking about what the caller hears or what the Summit user hears? The Summit user will hear intercom dial tone until they hang up or transfer a call. As Ed V. stated, that's the way it has always been. Gives the user the option to quickly dial another extension.

"Are you talking about what the caller hears or what the Summit user hears?"
Yes. Many users are asking why. I'm coming from the Panasonic, Nortel, and NEC world where placing a call on hold has options, including idle silence. Really annoying to headset and speaker phone users.
I'm working with a Vertical tech support guy who's own Summit 800 system, goes silent after pressing hold, so I'm hoping it is possible.

I suppose that you could have a station's off hook preference mimic pressing a key for something completely idle, such as a vacant loop CO line. Even that would require some trickery in order to prevent other things from happening. I've never had anyone request this, but I can see where headset users might request it. I'd be interested to hear where we go with this thread.

Common attributes icm dial tone source, if you don't have external music on hold, set it to that and there's silence, if not set to whatever setting in there you don't use so there is silence, you can even set it to play background music if you want. its pgm 111 under tone/ring attributes

Yes. Yes to which one? I'm still confused. It sounds like you're talking about the Summit user (not the caller). If that is the case you can do as Simpsoncomm mentioned, but that will also change intercom dial tone on the rest of their calls.
