A customer reported that after one of their techs tried to connect a ring-based relay horn to an analog extension, he may have shorted out the line or possibly even applied voltage to it. After that, the extension reportedly no longer gives a dial tone, but instead a beeping tone is heard when they pick up the handset. Customer reports that the alarm LED was flashing on the SL2100 cabinet. Customer also reports that the neighboring extensions (presume at least one is on the same line card) continue to work normally.

I advised the customer to power cycle the SL2100, this had no effect.

Unfortunately the customer has not yet run the Cat5 cable to connect the PBX to the LAN, otherwise I would be able to remotely access the WebPro admin page and see what the alarms are, and check status of cards.

Even though I've installed several of them now, I am somewhat new to the SL2100, so I don't know what the typical signs of a fried line card are.

To sum it all up: What does this beeping on an analog extension mean?

Thanks!

What it comes down to is a service call. You need to see and hear for yourself.
