I went to use one of my SL phones today and it was very noisy. Checked at the 66 block with the cross connect removed and still had the noise. Is it possible for one of the ports to just die?

I checked the same phone on a different port-it was fine. Used my butt set at the 66 block. Got noise on that port, clear on all others.

Yes, it's possible for a port to just up and die.
I also use a test jig with a 66 block and short AMP cable to rule out IDF problems.

So just to be sure I made a cable with an amphenol and a jack on the proper port-still got noise. I had 2 SLC cards in the KSU so I swapped them around. Same problem when I put this card in the other slot.

Did you have the same problem on the same port when you moved the card to another slot? if so I would say the port is bad. Did the replacement card have the same problem? if so its a backplane issue.

Jeff you did the right thing to test it. Always go to the tail with your buttset. ESPECIALLY if someone wired the station blocks with bridge clips. :bang: The next thing is to always frog the card to another slot to rule out the tails and the back plane on the cabinet. In the past I'd troubleshoot the cards down to the component level and often find cold solder to be the culprit. Shoot Tom a PM and tell him you need a deal on a new card.

I solved the problem-I put the good card in a different slot, and changed it in database programming. Everything works now
