"Nortel T7316E system"
T7316e is a phone not a system.
You should find out what system you have.

"Changed the VM remotely, now I get a high pitch- (fax-signal)"
Changed what part of VM?
What steps did you do to do what?

"or get into the VM using *9 or #5"
Those codes do not sound familiar.

Are you a user or the administrator?
Sounds like you might need a tech on site.

It appears when calling your business it is not a Nortel voicemail system but maybe an Avaya IP Office voicemail system.
You probably had a Norstar system at one time then migrated to an Avaya IP Office with a Norstar module to allow you to keep your phones.

If not IP Office then may a UCX by E-Metrotel.

See if that high pitch sound is actually a message left in the mailbox by mistake - in other words try and delete it.

It's also possible (if unlikely) the voicemail is a third party setup and not Nortel, Avaya, or E-Metrotel.
