Don't know if the OP is still reading this thread.

Echoing what Tito1411 said, the Linux system is only the voice-mail, which is more of a bolt-on system to the phone system. The phone system itself is a different propreitary OS, and is only accessed through the programming software running on Windows.

The only thing you can do on your Mac is to hook to the serial port on the CPC, and run a few basic debugging things (as well as commands that can make the system reboot, or even destroy something critical if you are extremely unlucky).

You need the programming software to do *anything*, it has to run under windows, and you have to match the version *exactly* which is why they are asking you to try to get the version info.
The software is supposed to be only available to certified techs, but maybe somebody would have been very nice to you. smile

The Inter-Tel isn't made to be configured/setup by non-trained users. Sort of like your car. You can do a few things on modern cars, but to really get into it, you need specialized tools, specialized knowledge, specialized software, etc.

However, I'm here to tell you that if you read, read, read this board, and are not completely unglued by unfamiliar technology, the folks on this board who ARE certified techs are marvelously helpful.

Do any of those folks in the know, have any experience with the database system being run under a Windows emulator on a Mac? That might be an option for the OP if they can't get hold of a real Windows machine.

I'm not trying to scare away people. I'm not a phone tech, I've never worked for a telephone installer. I am advanced level computer/network tech/admin, but I've been working on various phone systems for years and years eeking out every last thing they can do.

I do try to judge the level of the poster and what they are trying to do, and if they do seem to be in over what they can do within a reasonable time, I'd recommend going out to the phone tech that know these things in and out and have access to all the tools.

But given enough time, and effort at learning it, it is certainly a system a computer tech can manage. There's alot of learning though.

BTW: I use a Mac desktop and laptop, DB Studio works just peachy running in Fusion on a windows virtual system, but any other virtual platform would work fine too. Both serial and network access.
