Hi,

I need some help programming a kx-tva50 voice mail. The customer just wants a couple of things done to the auto attendant. Change the greeting to "Thank you for calling xxx" followed by if you want to reach xxx dial 102, if you want to reach yyy dial 105, for 7 people total. And finally if no selection is made, go to the general mailbox. I'm having a hard time understanding prompt numbers vs mailboxes. It would be nice to be able to say press 1 for xxx, or press 2 for yyy instead of voicing the actual extension number but I don't see that option in any of the manuals. Thanks.

Paul

You need the KX-TVA Maintenance Console programming tool. With that, you can access the Custom Service greetings and make those changes to the system.

Thanks for replying. I did download the KX-TVA maintenance console and did not find that option. I entered the names but that was it. Now customer has another problem. Most of the PBX ports are default. ie jack 1 = ext-101 all the way up to ext.106. Since the voice mail defaults to using jack 7 & 8, i continued the extension list to Jack 9 as ext-107, jack 10 as ext-108. I did change the extension numbers for jacks 7 & 8 to ext 199 and 198. Extensions 101 thru 106 work as follows: dialing 199, vm answers, vm as for your password and your in. When trying the same process from ext-107 it does not take you to the login instead asking what extension number do you want. FYI - this voice mail is connected to a KA-TA824. Not sure why, but seems odd that this is happening to extensions after the vm ports. coincidence?? One more thing - is it possible to have the external paging horns ring when the co lines ring?

Click Service Settings, then click on the Custom Service TAB on the bottom. This will display a diagram(may need to scroll up and left) of the voice tree. Click on the CS # to edit.
As for 107, it sound like there is no mailbox assigned so it's treated like an outside caller, click on Mailbox Settings to add a new user.

I like doing a generic company greeting that is simple to change via the message manager then have it go to the custom service menus for complex instructions and paths between menus.

This way 98% stays the same but you can do "Thank you for calling ABC company" or "Happy holidays from ABC company" or "ABC company will be closed for Parking lot paving on Thursday" easily.

The menuing keys rarely change but custom service recording do and they can be quite long. Typically once set up only the names change occasionally and that can be done on a phone.

I also like to take a picture of the Custom services screen for future references.

I agree that it's likely there is no box assigned to 107.

The paging all depends on the type of amplifier used. I like Valcom as it has connections that you use a SLT port and program what is supposed to go over the paging.

Good Luck!
