Anyone use the syslog settings in the system IP options of the Samsungs? Trying to figure out if that will help troubleshoot why the network interface keeps shutting down.

If the network interface sites down or won be able to send the messages to the syslog server.

Also from memory these are not user readable logs. They were for the engineers to use.

Run Wireshark it'll slow you what's on the network.
It's likely spoke machines broadcasting a lot of traffic or some management software on the network tripping to see what applications are installed on the system as it things it's a pc.

Thanks for the reply nameless.

Yeah, I knew if it was down then it would be too late. My thinking was it might send some warnings to the syslog server before it happened. I had already told the customer that a wireshark trace may be the only option. If the logs can only be read by Samsung engineers then I guess that settles the question of using them.

Hey nameless or anyone else that knows. If you have a call accounting machine on the network that is using telnet to access SMDR records, does telnet need to be enabled under protocol enable in the system IP options screen? The call accounting system seems to be getting the records with it disabled, but I'm wondering if this may cause the OS7400 to think the requests are unauthorized and eventually shut down the port? The LAN is setup in the Management IP white list.

Smdr and telnet are 2 different functions.
Smdr access is controlled by the management ip whitelist.

Telnet os os7200/7400 was only ever for diagnostic info for Korea.

In the smaller systems it could get you into Linux so you could do some basic network diagnostic (ping mainly) or into the vmcli (port activity) for diagnostic there.

OK, maybe I need to clarify with my customer. He said he is using telnet to port 5100 on the call accounting system to pull the SMDR records. Is this not feasible?

Connecting to prot 5100 on the mp regardless of what program you use is classed as smdr.

Connecting to port 23 on the mp is classed as telnet.

Eg I type the following command:
telnet <mp40 ip address> 5100

Will bring up the smdr and connection is restricted by the management ip whitelist and turning on smdr

If I type <mp40 address>

Will bring up a different connection, this is what the telnet enable in 4.9x and higher is talking about
