We have Bogen Amplifers feeding our overhead speakers. We are wanting to install no dialpad phones in the plant to automatically connect when handset is lifted to the music in port on the amplifers to page throughout the plant. Can anyone tell me what equipment I might need to connect? This is not going through our phone system. I am not sure what device I need to provide power to the no dial phone when off hook to produce a 600 ohm signal to connect to the music in port.

Please let me know if this needs to be posted in a different forum.

Thank you,

Curt Davis

Easy...perhaps. What Bogen Amp do you have?

600 ohm music port might be an output for Music on Hold. Be sure that it is an input and not an output.

How many phones are you going to have? Pickup an older KSU with hot dial feature and analog ports. Viking and Atlas Sound both make items to do that.

It sounds like what you want is a handset with just a mic in it and a mute switch in the hook. Why not just use one of these?

It comes down to however many phones you need. I installed a Panasonic 616 in a factory about 20 years ago. They actually could page overhead and receive calls to the phone. Pana's pickup dial gave the interface to the paging after a 2 second delay. If they dialed fast enough, they could ring an extension.

This type of arrangement would probably be the least expensive. You have $100 or so for an 8-port key system, and the interface is 2 wires to each phone, and 2 wires to the paging system amp. 16 extensions might be about $175 and maybe another $100 for parts. Ebay would be your friend.

The MIC arrangement would tend to be cumbersome as you would have to map out and balance each connection and distance to the amp. Sticking to a telephone based system is more forgiving.
