I would like to connect directly to a CPC card to access the database programming. This will be my first time trying this and need to know which port to plug in to and why type of cable I need to do this. I know that a CAT5 (RJ45) cable is needed but what type of pin configuration do I need? I am assuming that a regular patch cable does not use the correct pin configuration. I do not have a serial port on my laptop, just an Ethernet. Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

For a CPC (not CPU) connection, use a standard LAN cross-over cable. The default IP address of the CPC is 192.168.200.201.

From session manager I select Direct Cable and the system version. What should I select for the speed? Thanks for your help.

From Session Manager, you would select Network, not Direct Cable. Direct Cable is only used for serial connections, which does not apply to CPCs.
You'll probably need to change the IP address of your laptop; try 192.168.200.205, 255.255.255.0. Of course, if the CPC IP address has been changed, you'll need to make the necessary adjustments.
