Alright. Totally off topic (that's why I'm posting it here).

I may be in the market for a color printer/copier for our church. We probably are in the 1-2K per month copies. The crooks at the copier company want about 11 cents per color page and I don't have all the total numbers, but I think that's about twice the rate of owning your own $600 printer. Clearly we need a networking, duplexing printer and I'm not sure if 11x17 is needed. Copies and maybe fax (multifunction) would be best, although no fax and scanning would also work.

So, my question: Do any of you on this forum have experience with color copiers in your business, at your church, or have friends with color laser devices and can you tell me what brand and cost to operate? Just a ballpark. I see horrible reviews on certain Brother and HP brands, a lot to do with refilling laser toner and generic toners. I have a Canon black that uses generic toners for a really cheap price and a Canon ink jet for my very small color needs. I also happen to own about 3 monochrome laser printers that are in storage, but probably not capable of printing 1000 pages a month.

Anyway, please let me know what you guys think.

Carl

Maybe. It's a church. I can do that in my office, probably not in a church office. But smile Their direct copy needs might not be a lot.

I'm leaning toward the Canon MF-7xxCdw models. I just have to do more research and reviewing.

I own a Canon imageCLASS MF-726Cdw. It doesn't get much use here @ the house, but, it has been trouble-free. I purchased an imageCLASS MF-733Cdw for my church. It backs up a Kyocera TASKalfa 2552ci which is leased. It sees minor usage. Outside of having difficulty checking for firmware updates, and, provided documentation that is sorely lacking, the 733 has been well behaved.

Canon's imageCLASS devices are similar in appearance and specs to units sold under the HP logo. I suspect that they are all produced by a common third party.

1000 copies/month may be nearing the ceiling for the imageCLASS line. The current top models (743, 745 & 746) do have high capacity toner cartridges available that might make more financial sense than the standard cartridges.

Would purchasing a refurbished all in one machine be doable...say something along the lines of the imageRUNNER ADVANCE C3530i III? Yes...the initial outlay would be high, but there would be no contract limits on how many copies could be made. ponder

1-2k copies is high volume. You might want to look at leasing and looking around. Off the shelf small business printer probably won't cut it.

The high(er) end copiers in the 7xx series are rated for 5000 copies a month. Aftermarket toner is not expensive and it looks like I can get the cost to about 3 cents or less for color copies, including the paper, and deal with the drum down the road.

Probably won't make the decision until mid January so I have plenty of time. I'm almost tempted to spring $270 at Costco for the 644 in my own office. I have a Samsung CLP-310 or 315 that I have run less than 50 pages through and a Canon MG series that I have a boatload of ink for. I just don't print much color since there's little call for bound or binder manuals and proposals.

I use an epson ecotank at home and it's been pretty cool. They are rated for 5000 max a month. The drivers dont have a lot of bloat and I take that as a good sign you dont often see.
