I just discovered that my mail server being down causes a boot loop on our 7200 system.
The last events in the alarm show this

MNF36 11/20/2019 09:30:28 SVMi HDD Alarm C1-MP 00%
MJE14 11/20/2019 09:30:28 MPS Restart C1-MP
MJE20 11/20/2019 09:30:28 OAS Start C1-S01
MJD24 11/20/2019 09:30:29 L2 Connect C1-S05
MJE33 11/20/2019 09:33:28 RTG Restart C1-MP

However, the system rebooted a number of times before that. All the digital phones would boot up, work for 2 minutes, then shut off for about 2.5 minutes. I tried a manual power reset of the 7200 which didn't change behavior.

I have pingplotter running on my network at all times to monitor uptime, and it shows the correlation between the mail server outage and the reboots

Anyone know why this happens?

What happens when you unplug the system from the network and just let it run on it's own? Do the phones still reboot? Might there be something else on your network causing a reboot?

More than likely the excess traffic generated by the clients trying to connect to the mail server is causing the boot loop.

Do you have email notifications turned on for the event logs?

Looks like the software I was on had a software bug.
It was fixed in ’16.03.08 V4.95

So if your mail server is down, and you're on this version, your system will keep resetting until the mail server can receive SMTP again.

[Bug Fix]
14. [-/Linux/ALL] System restart after set DM 6.1.4 System Alarm Mail Server Info
<Description>
System restart after set Send Day and Send Major Alarm Immediately on DM 6.1.4 System Alarm Mail Server Info because of failure of socket control
<Cause>
