Hello.

I am in a bit of a situation. I am trying to keep my phone number which I have had for many years.

The issue is that my CLEC is going out of business and decided to disconnect my phone number out of the blue and without warning.

When I contacted other companies such as Comcast and AT&T, they tell me they are unable to port the number because its disconnected. I think I had contacted them within hours of the number being disconnected.

To make matters worse, no one is able to agree on who has control over the number.

CLEC said AT&T has control. AT&T said that an another company(possible the CLEC) has control.
Various websites show different carriers as having control of the phone numbers( all under the Windstream unbrilla of own companies)

I'm not sure if they are simple unable to port the number or unwilling to port due to fear of being accused practice of "SLAMMING" and this is all to somehow show that the person requesting the number actually has control over it.

Its a big mess. At this point, we are still less then 1 week since the phone number was aburptely disconnected.

So My question is.

1. Can the number still be ported or at least somehow reserved?
2. Is there anyway to tell for sure who has control over the number?

Thanks.

Company that administrates the number porting in the US is https://iconectiv.com.

I am not sure though if they are able to help the end customer with any issues like you are having, but it won't hurt to contact them and see if they respond to your problem with an answer

Some friendly advice. FILL OUT YOUR PROFILE! If you are in the U.S., you might try your state's Public Service Commission. Tell them the story and see if they can't light a fire on your receiving carrier to force the number into their pool.
