I was wondering if there was an easy way of programming an Inter-tel 5860 phone for use with headset. Apparently when out company got these, they didn't program them for use with a headset, according to tech support. They're saying they need to log in and do it remotely (with service charge) or have technician come and do it (with bigger service charge). Seems like this should be easy to fix..since the phone has the plug for headsets..or at least should have been programmed as a default. Any help her would be appreciated. Thanks.

Depends on the kind of headset and how you are going to use it. If this is a headset with a lifter, then it's not too difficult, as you connect it through the handset jack, which usually has good instructions on connecting the handset and lifter. The difficulties come in setting the compatiblity mode, especially if you don't know what switches to change to make it compatible with your phone system, (which version is it by the way, and is this an Axxess or 5000)? If this is the sort of configuration where you simply press a button to put the phone is headset mode, then the speaker button to put the headset on or off hook, then the aforementioned button needs to be programmed, and you still have to adjust the settings to make the headset compatible with your phone system.
Since the system uses proprietary programming software, you probably will need the services of a technician to install this if you are looking to the latter method (which is where you use the headset jack on the phone.)
Good luck!

Bpack,
Feature code 317 toggles headset mode on / off.
Make sure headset mode is on.

Once the phone is in headset mode, you can press a call key, line key or IC button (depending on your situation) to place or answer a call. Use the speaker button to hang up.
If your vendor was unwilling, or unable, to give you this simple information without charging labor, it might be time for a new vendor.
