Hi,
I am trying to update smt-i5220d firmware via phone menu. In firmware upgrade menu there are two choises, 1. User upgrade, 2. Recovery upgrade. If I choose "User upgrade", the phone try to load "SMT-i5220.conf" file from tftp server. If I choose "Recovery upgrade", the phone try to load "rec.conf" from TFTP server.
We also have some i3100 and i5243 models. i3100 loads itp .ini files and i5243 loads rfu.xml file from TFTP. But I don't know what is rec.conf and smt-i5220.conf files. The update file contains rfu.xml file. I tried to rename rfu.xml to rec.xml and smt-i5220.xml but the phone did not liked it, failed to upgrade. Then I copied and modified i3100's itpfile.ini and renamed it as smt-i5220.conf. The phone seemed to recognized ini format but what ever I give to name parameter, the phone complains about "Downgrade not allowed".
Any body know the correct format for smt-i5220.conf and rec.conf files?
Regards
Rahman

I only ever did user upgrade. Here is the contents of the smt-i5220.conf for an early version of firmware (OS7000 not SCM)
VERSION=V2.12 PSP_IMG=init.img RAM_IMG=init.bin PSP_IMG_SIZE=4366344 RAM_IMG_SIZE=882692
This phone is very different from the other SMT-ixxxx series, even the similarly named SMT-i5220S.

They look the same and work the same, but the firmware is different. Just like the smti5210 and smti5210s look the same but the firmware is different.

Some history
The first generation of OS7000 SMT-5220 phones, were made by a 3rd party company under contract to Samsung.
After a short while, Samsung designed a new SMT-5200 that used the same mechanical components (case, Handset etc), but used totally a different main board and a totally different SW set.
These first generation phones are not upgradable for SCM use.
Also the early Samsung made SMT-5220 phones had limited memory, so are not recommended for upgrade to SCM standard.
You need to obtain later versions (ideally the SMT-5220S) for SCM use.
