We do alot of work in an 8 story office building and have a terrible time when people get new numbers, or there are new tenants, because SBC doesn't mark the lines.
The come in, punch the lines down, and expect you to figure out what line your new numbers are on, with the 4000 pair closet.
I was thinking about putting a clipboard up requesting them to write the number, and then the number they are punching it down on. Not sure if they would comply or not.
How are any of you handling this?

Well - that is what we do, but it sucks when the client says there phone lines are in, and you can't connect them cause they are not tagged, and they have to wait another day.

I tell my clients to have SBC (or who ever) show them the tag before signing off on the ticket. I also let them know I charge for each trip in case they are to lazy to take a walk with the Tech.

That's a good idea.
I am going to talk to the building management and pretty much post a board requiring them to write the pair that the line is punched down on.

Call SBC Repair Service - here we have an 800 number instead of 611 - When you get the automated system asking you to input the number you are reporting trouble or checking status on, PRESS ZERO.
When you get a human, they're usually pretty good. Tell them you're Joe Schmoe, vendor for XYZ company, they just had a number installed, and you need the "Final Binding Post". They might make you confirm the installation address, but they will give you the BP number.
They'll do it for an entire order of F&T lines, and they'll even do it on the day of an F&T before the dial tone becomes live, they have the pairs all blocked and will let you know where they are assigned.
Good luck!

I do what Touch Tone Tommy said.
They will give you the binding pair if you can stat the customers name and address. They sometimes want to know the company you work for and i doing for another LEC.
Good Luck!!
If all else fails, use a BFH.

I do that as well, but 8 out of 10 times the Binding Post information is wrong. I've even had them tell me it was on a binding post that didn't exist. The building's terminal didn't go to as high a number as the one they gave me. Tagging is really the best way, since we no longer can have tone sent on the line. ------------------ | Signal Communication Systems - Fresno, CA | | Telephone Systems, Voicemail Syste... & Data Cabling - Central Valley, CA
